Maryland’s Best? Lawyers

By Byron Warnken, on August 1, 2015

A lawyer can’t tell you he’s the best.  In fact, he can’t tell you anything that compares himself to another lawyer unless it’s objectively true.  Why don’t we tolerate puffery in legal services the same way we do in nearly everything else in our capitalist society?  I’m not sure.  We’re lawyers.  We’re sticklers for the truth.  I guess.

Rule 7.1(c), in the Maryland Rules of Professional conduct governing lawyers says, “A lawyer shall not make a false or misleading communication about the lawyer or lawyer’s services.  A communication is false or misleading if it … compares the lawyer’s services with other lawyers’ services, unless the comparison can be factually substantiated.”  See more here:  https://www.law.cornell.edu/ethics/md/code/MD_CODE.HTM#Rule_7.1

How Do You Know Who the Best Attorneys Are If They Can’t Tell You?

Kind of a laughable headline, don’t you think?  Do the best lawyers or best anything really need to tell us?  What happened to “your reputation proceeds you”?

Here’s what happened: The Internet.  Now, the words on the page really matter.  Someone seeking an attorney wants the “best” attorney, whatever that means.  So that someone searches for the best lawyer.  Maybe they ask the mighty Google, [who is] “the best personal injury lawyer in Baltimore.”  Who will appear in those search results?  On some level, it’s those who tell you they are the best.

InjuryLawyerDatabase.com was built with the hopes that we could answer the question in an objective way.  We wanted to show you the most experienced lawyers in Maryland.  On some level we succeeded.  In looking at the stats, in browsing the site, you can begin to differentiate lawyers.  Who does what?  Even though we can’t use the word “specialize,” you can tell which lawyers specialize in specific areas of personal injury.

Which Lawyer to Hire

Which lawyer is a difficult decision if you don’t know many or any lawyers.  You are forced to trust Uncle Lou’s friend.  Can you trust Uncle Lou’s friend?  Who knows.

But statistics are statistics.  InjuryLawyerDatabase.com has not achieved our ultimate goal of finding the perfect lawyer in every situation, but we have provided a lot of value in that we have a real window into personal injury lawyers in Maryland.
