April 2015 Maryland Litigation Statistics

By Byron Warnken, on May 24, 2015

April 2015 saw 6699 different cases filed in Maryland Circuit Courts. Of these cases, only 10 were listed as medical malpractice. This is completely consistent with numbers from the first quarter. We highlighted those stats – medical malpractice made up less than one half of 1% of all circuit court cases – in this medical malpractice infographic, published last month.

Motor torts (car accident cases) made up 319 cases, under 5% of all suits filed.

Workers’ compensation appeals – the last major injury category we like to track, saw less than 300 total cases filed, by either employer/insurers or claimants.

The most active workers’ comp lawyer in Maryland (based on appeals filed) in April was Ben Boscolo of Chasen Boscolo in Greenbelt. Other active lawyers include Salsbury workers’ comp lawyer Ken Gaudreau and Baltimore area comp attorneys Aaron Schwartz and Rebecca Smith. To see the ILD full list of comp attorneys – go here.
