Neil Lewis and the Lewis Law Line Troubles

By Byron Warnken, on July 25, 2014

If you have been in Baltimore for the last 20 plus years, you’ve heard commercials for Neil Lewis and the Lewis Law Line.  Lewis is a personal injury lawyer in Baltimore handling car accidents, medical malpractice and workers’ compensation.  Though he may not have the same name recognition as Saiontz and Kirk and You’ve Got a Phone, he is a mainstay in the Baltimore PI marketing lawyer space.

As reported by the Daily Record, Lewis is in hot water with the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland.  This is not Lewis’s first issue.  In fiscal 2011 Lewis was sanctioned for “failure to provide diligent and competent representation of clients and for failing to keep clients reasonably informed.”

This time, however, the situation appears more dire.  The AGC has taken the unusual step of asking for Lewis to be prevented from representing clients pending the outcome of the proceedings.  Usually the process proceeds in its due course and, at the end, provisions are made based on the outcome.  That might not be the case here.

The Daily Record story says Lewis’s office had 800 files open during the investigation last time around.  Despite the fact that there is at listed one other lawyer listed as practicing with Neil Lewis (Barry Diamond), 800 files is a huge number.  And this is not to mention the numerous files the Lewis Law Line office has had in the past.  What happens to these folks, I wonder?  Do they know they can seek counsel?  Is there any provision in the proceedings for notifying these folks of what’s happening?

The Comp Pinkbook had Lewis obtaining 45 awards during an 18-month period for injured workers.  Common opponents included the City of Baltimore, the State of Maryland and Comcast Cable.  A lot of folks might be wondering what happens to my case with Neil Lewis.  The truth is, I don’t know.  I’m not sure that anyone does based on what I have read.

  1. The cases will be handed over to another attorney to be represented.

The clients will be notified when the time is necessary to advise tem and give them the chance to seek other representation.

    • I appreciate the comment Teilla. My hope for you and your boss, Mr. Lewis, is that clients are not harmed by the transition. I know the Maryland bar has resources in place and I’d imagine Mr. Lewis has numerous relationships from his many years in practice. I wish you the best.

    • Why do y’all always say “he’s not there” or “he’ll call me later” if y’all knew he was barrd. Are you scamming to ? Why are you guys covering up for him ?

  2. We’ve been trying to get a handle on my moms case and keep getting nowhere. What do you think the best way to handle going further is when nobody will talk to you?

  3. He scammed me and I want my settlement check. I have a fear that he may have used it because he told me the insurance agency would disburse the money individualy. I couldn’t ever get in touch with him and the people that work in his office are very nice but you can tell they are widtholding information what can i do

  4. He scammed me also. He called me back in June with my settlement amount but ever since then I’ve never talked to him. I’ve called everyday & all his secretary ever say if he’s not there. They’re lying because once I start to argue they transfer me to him. I finally got to the bottom of it. Hrs barred & took off with out money. He claims to be retired BS! But here’s the number to call 410-514-7051Ramond Hienz can help you. He’s working with an agency that’s handling all of me lewis cases. He scammed me out of 2 accidents.

  5. My husband was in an accident in 2007 and Neil Lewis got 220,000 from our insurance company from our uninsured motorist policy. He said that we had to endorse this money over to him. The very next day, he called and said that the hospital placed a lein on our money. Since then, (2007) he has said that he is “working on the case,” and never any more specifics. He never contacts us. He never keeps his promises to call us with information. In fact, Mr. Lewis has never called us. We only talk to him when we call and insist on talking to him. My husband passed away four months ago without ever seeing any of his money. This is disgraceful!

  6. Neil Lewis is a crook!!! He handled my first case, got money of which I don’t think it was the correct amount. He handled my second case kept telling me he didn’t get the money, then I was told he was out sick every time I called to check. Finally, I told them I was calling my insurance company of which I did they informed me that they sent the check to Neil 6 months previous to me talking to them , and Neil cashed the check the day he received it. And Neil kept telling me he never got my money, of which he did!! He has done nothing, but use people… Seems he does that quite well…

  7. i also have a workers comp. case with neil lewis, i was never told by barry diomond or anyone in the office that lewis had been disbarred. today i spoke to another lawer to represent me, i was told they would and to come to their office tomorrow ,remove barry diomond from the case and they didnt have a problem representing me. Guess what? After being bullsh~~d for almost 2 years, Mr. Diomond tells my lawer he ready to settle my case. My pending lawer that is. So now after just cancelling my new settlement date for this upcoming June,2015 , he now can settle. To this date I HAVE NEVER RECIEVED ANY CORRESPONDANCE from Mr.. Diomond about any negotiation
